Description of Davos:

Davos is internationally renowned as a "Metropolis of Winter Sports". Located in the Grissons region of Switzerland, near the borders of Austria and Italy, the town lies along a valley situated between the mountains. On each side of the the valley, these mountains have been developed into five separate ski regions where you will find demanding and difficult slopes for the intermediate to expert, wild and long runs for the cruiser and big, and wide runs for the beginner. Most are accessible without long lift lines due to 55 lift facilities including funiculars, cable airways, chairlifts, and ski lifts spread throughout the area. The ski area statistics are quite impressive: 7 mountains with more than 200 miles of marked runs, a lift capacity of 55,000 persons per hour, Europe's longest ski run from the Weissfluhgipfel (9460') down to Kublis (2680') with a 6780' vertical drop and almost 8 miles in length. It's no wonder that Davos plays host each year to such a great number of winter sports enthusiasts.

Cross country skiers will enjoy over 48 miles of prepared trails across stunning scenery with breathtaking views around every bend. If you fancy ice skating, you'll be amazed at the facilities here. Europe's biggest natural ice rink with the world's fastest ice, the magnificent Ice Stadium and it's new artificial open air ice rink make Davos the unchallenged number 1 of European ice sports.

An amazing variety of other winter sports activities lie in Davos, including tobogganing, curling (bowling on ice), horseback riding, tennis (indoor), ice hockey, and horse drawn sleigh rides into romantic side valleys. For those who would like more gentle activities, pleasant walks through the woods and prepared foot paths make for an invigorating day. Davos works very hard to keep night life in full gear. From the rustic mountain inns to the first class specialty restaurants, from the cozy hotel bar to the vibrant flashing lights of the discotheque, from the theatre and concerts to the exclusive night club shows after midnight, Davos offers a variety of night life to suit everyone.

Because of it's location, tours are often arranged from Davos to some of the other popular resorts and sights in the vicinity. You could make a day trip to St. Moritz by train, join a train excursion on the Berina Express and have lunch in Poschiavo, or join an excursion by coach to the duty free Livigno in Italy for some shopping and skiing.
