Description of Interlaken:
Another popular resort
of the Jungfrau region, Interlaken offers you the opportunity to
ski all of the regions of Grindewald, Kleine Scheidegg, Wengen,
and Murren, but, at the same time, offers the ambience of a small
town atmosphere with big city sophistication.
Situated at 1870 feet
above sea level, in the heart of Switzerland, and of Europe, between
the Lakes of Brienz and Thun, Interlaken provides a wonderful destination
for a winter vacation. In fact, the tourist office has listed ten
good reasons why you should visist Interlaken. We eartily endorse
those reasons, and list them for your consideration:
- It's geographical position makes
it ideal as a destination easily reached.
- The climate is subalpine, yet mild.
You will not find great changes in the temperature due to forests
surrounding the town and the nearby glacier.
- Cozy hotels and guest houses from
the most unpretentious to the most deluxe.
- The new casino at the Convention
Center where you might try your luck.
- The variety of sights to see such
as high alpine glacier world, lakes and waterfalls, and many other
attractions all are within a 15 mile radius.
- Possibilities for excursions such
as Lucerne, Berne, and Geneva -- All an easy ride by the marvelous
train system.
- Sports facilities including cross-country
skiing, alpine skiing, and ice skating.
- Bargain hotel prices for winter
sports enthusiasts to enjoy a different ski area each day, as well
as an efficient ski-bus system to get you to the slopes as soon
as possible.
- Business and entertainment districts
with many of the shops on a pedestrian mall in the clean fresh air,
and concerts in the "Kursaal" originally constructed in
1859.
- Certainly last but not least is
the famous Swiss hospitality. The people here are genuinely interested
in you. They are glad that you are visiting their town, and will
go out of their way to help you enjoy the visit so much you will
want to return again.
Interlaken is obviously
a great place for the winter vacationer as well since the opportunities
for excursions are many. Certainly one to consider would e the chance
to add a few days to your tour and take our optional extension tour
to Paris. From Interlaken, you would take the transfer bus back to
Zurich, see the city, and board the overnight train to Paris. Since
you've come this far, it would be a shame if you missed this chance.
