About The Resort

The Heavenly Valley Resort is located on the California–Nevada border in South Lake Tahoe in the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. It opened for business on December 15th, 1955, and has 97 runs and 30 lifts that are spread between California and Nevada and four base facilities. The resort has 4,800 acres within its permit area, with approximately 33% currently developed for skiing, boasting the highest elevation of the Lake Tahoe area resorts with a peak elevation of 10,067 ft, and a peak lift-service elevation of 10,040 ft.

Palisades Tahoe ski resort is in the western United States, located in Olympic Valley, California, northwest of Tahoe City in the Sierra Nevada range. From its founding in 1949 until 2021, the resort was known as Squaw Valley but changed its name due to the derogatory meaning of squaw to Native Americans and their allies. The resort is the largest skiing complex in the Lake Tahoe region and is known for its challenging terrain. With a base elevation of 6,200 feet and a skiable 6,000 acres across six peaks, employing 30 chairlifts (including a tramway and the only funitel in the U.S.). It tops out at 9,050 ft at Granite Chief and averages 400 inches (33.3 ft) of annual snowfall. The resort attracts approximately 600,000 skiers a year.

Kirkwood Mountain Resort is a year-round resort in Kirkwood, California south of Lake Tahoe that focuses on skiing and snowboarding. Kirkwood is one of the region's larger resorts and is well known for having one of the highest average snowfalls and a broad selection of advanced skiing terrain. The mountain is unique in that it has a 2 mi ridgeline at the top. This makes Kirkwood popular for cliff drops and cornices. Kirkwood received 804 inches of snow during the 2005-2006 ski season. The average seasonal snowfall is 472 inches second only to Sugar Bowl Ski Resort in the Sierra Nevada. Kirkwood is approximately 33 mi south of South Lake Tahoe, California on State Route 88 and is contained within the Eldorado National Forest. Most of the region's resorts are at the northern end of the lake, near Truckee, California. Kirkwood, Sierra-at-Tahoe, and Heavenly are located on the southern side of the lake.

The Alpine Meadows ski resort is located in the western United States, located in Alpine Meadows, California. Near the northwest shore of Lake Tahoe, it offers 2,400 acres of skiable terrain, 13 different lifts, and a vertical drop of 2,000 feet.

Northstar California (previously Northstar-at-Tahoe) is a mountain resort in the western United States, located in Placer County, California, near the northwest shore of Lake Tahoe. Approximately 200 miles from the San Francisco Bay Area, the 3,170-acre resort features a 2,280 ft vertical drop of alpine terrain accessed by 20 lifts, a snowmaking system, a cross-country center, a village, and on-site lodging and summer activities including an 18-hole golf course and a lift-served mountain bike park. Northstar features 3,170 acres of terrain, with 60% of trails designated for intermediate skiers. The resort has been consistently rated as having one of the top 10 terrain parks in North America. It features seven different terrain parks for all different skill levels across 55 acres of terrain. The resort also has an annual snowfall of 350 inches per year.

Sierra-at-Tahoe is a ski and snowboard resort in Twin Bridges, California south of Lake Tahoe. Sierra-at-Tahoe is approximately 16 miles south of Stateline, Nevada, and 12 miles south of South Lake Tahoe on U.S. Route 50 and is contained within the Eldorado National Forest. Sierra-at-Tahoe (often shortened to "Sierra") is a medium-sized ski area in the Lake Tahoe region and is well known for being a more family-oriented resort and also having a high annual snowfall. Sierra-at-Tahoe's terrain is 25 percent beginner, 50 percent Intermediate, and 25 percent advanced. The majority of the ski resorts in the Lake Tahoe region are on the northern end of the lake, near Truckee, California, and Reno, Nevada. Sierra-at-Tahoe, Kirkwood, and Heavenly are located on the southern side of the lake, approximately 75 miles from Reno. It is common for visitors to ski amongst these three resorts when staying in the southern Lake Tahoe area and not venture to the northern lake resorts such as Squaw Valley, Northstar at Tahoe, and Sugar Bowl, which are approximately 50-70 miles away.
